Listen to Dominic Ntoumos single ‘Get Up Again’ ft. Dele Sosimi
British-Nigerian Afrobeat musician Dele Sosimi has been featured by Belgian trumpeter Dominic Ntoumos on a new single titled ‘Get Up Again’.
The song was composed by Ntoumos and Sosimi in London as a fusion tribute between jazz and Afrobeat to Fela Kuti. It comes after Ntoumos’ 2021 Back to the Roots album, which earned him the Album of the Year accolade at the Octaves de la Musique Awards in Brussels, Belgium.
‘Get Up Again’ is a rare musical encounter between Ntoumos, who is of Greek origin and often employs Eastern modes in his compositions, and songwriter and keyboardist Sosimi, who was a member of Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 ensemble in the late 1970s and 1980s, and then played with Femi Kuti’s Positive Force band from 1986 to 1994. The track possesses playful brass lines typical of Afrobeat, tasteful keyboard stabs, and of course Sosimi’s endearing baritone voice.
“Sometimes you have to wait for the right moment to release a track and in my humble opinion this was the right time to do it,” Ntoumos said. “In these difficult times for the past two years, to defend our rights and freedoms and our democracy that is slowly slipping away from us, this is ‘Get Up Again’, a tribute to Fela Kuti, a Nigerian singer, saxophonist, bandleader and politician who fought his entire life.”
