Call for participation: Discussion on factors limiting creator earnings in Africa
TechCabal is inviting interested participants to take part in its live panel discussion titled How Can African Creators Make More Money? on 24 June.
The session is open to established and aspiring creators including independent writers, artists, social media influencers, videographers, gamers and podcasters, as well as other industry players across Africa.
The panel will be hosted by TechCabal senior editor Kelechi Njoku who will speak with a number of delegates, including creatives, stakeholders and more. The speakers will discuss the factors limiting creators in Africa from monetising their creativity on the continent.
Some of the challenges to be debated include the potential for Africans to become more immersed in the global creator economy, and what it will take to develop the local creator ecosystem. The panel will also look at the opportunities for creators and stakeholders in the space, and the attendees will be given a chance to ask the speakers burning questions.
“The African creator economy is growing and gaining popularity each day,” TechCabal said. “The creator economy hasn’t always been seen to be sustainable, making employment difficult for creators. Today, the global creator economy is worth over $100 billion and Africans are shut out of most of it with only a few local creators earning from their audience compared to creators globally.
Among the stifling issues, TechCabal said, is the limited presence of efficient payment networks to connect African creators with global audiences, although a few platforms are working to change this.
