Call for entries: The Mic: Africa Season 3
The Mic: Africa is calling for registrations ahead of the third season of the hip hop competition, which will be held on the Take Back the Mic (TBTM) digital platform.
Organised by AMP Global, the contest is open to rising hip hop stars from 10 African countries, namely Ivory Coast , Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania.
The music competition and docuseries connect African music, arts and culture with a new generation of fans worldwide.
“With The Mic: Africa, our goal at TBTM Studios is to showcase and lift the amazing artists and filmmakers we discover on the TBTM platform to global recognition and prominence,” AMP Global founder Derrick Ashong said.
The registration deadline is 30 June.
How to enter
- Interested participants must have a user account and profile on the TBTM app in order to register. They can download the mobile app for Android or iOS from or use the web app to create their profile and upload their audio and video content.
Round one
- The Contest Country Charts will reflect the top 20 competing artists for each country and will be updated on a rolling basis throughout the competition. An individual’s artist profile will show their actual ranking number.
- The top two artists from each country will (upon confirmation and acceptance) advance to the semi-final round of the contest.
- Semi-finalists will be filmed in July/August and appear on the broadcast and digital presentation of The Mic: Africa Season 3 in September/October 2022.
- Producers will select one additional ‘wildcard’ artist from each country to advance to the semi-final round.
- Three semi-finalists from each country will appear on The Mic: Africa Season 3.
Round two
- Semi-finalists for each country will be filmed in their home country during July or August 2022.
- Documentary profiles of each semi-finalist will be aired on an episode of The Mic: Africa dedicated to their country.
- Viewers will vote during a four-day period of each country’s episode airing. The leading artist of each country will advance to the finals.
Round three
- Each country’s No 1 artist will be considered by fans and celebrity judges, and the top vote recipient during the final week will receive the grand prize.
- The top vote recipient on the Fan Favorite chart will also receive a prize (all 30 semi-finalists are eligible to win regardless of whether they advance to the final round).
- Episodes will air weekly in September and October.
