SA: Tresor makes Billboard’s Hot 100 Songwriters list
South Africa-based Congolese musician Tresor has claimed the No 15 spot on the coveted Billboard Hot 100 songwriters list.
The songwriter ranks above big names such as Doja Cat and Ed Sheeran in the list unveiled this week.
According to Billboard, the weekly Hot 100 Songwriters chart is “based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot 100, with genre-based songwriter and producer charts following the same methodology based on corresponding genre charts.
Other artists who appear on the songwriter list include Bad Bunny, Kate Bush and Harry Styles who make the top three musicians on the list.
The musician also appears on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic and R&B Songwriters lists where he claimed the No 4 and No 8 positions, respectively.
“I used to dream about days like this. It’s so surreal. I’m extremely grateful and elated to feature on the world’s most prestigious top songwriters list,” Tresor said.
Tresor’s milestone adds to his growing list of accomplishments in the US. It follows his recent contribution to Drake’s latest album Honestly, Nevermind, which was executively produced and co-written by fellow South African artist Black Coffee. Tresor also worked with Drake as a writer and producer on his previous album, Certified Lover Boy, which boasted appearances by acclaimed artists including Jay-Z, Future, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Kid Cudi and Rick Ross.
Born Mukengerwa Tresor Riziki in Goma, DRC, Tresor is a known for his unique soul sound. Since he relocated to South Africa, the award-winning artist has made an indelible mark on the Afropop scene, with notable collaborations with top local musicians including AKA, Msaki and Beatenberg.
Apart from his music, the singer is also involved with other projects including the Hunter’s Jacquel Culture House (JCH) launched in April. The platform, which features workshops and talent search campaigns, is aimed at new artists in South Africa looking to succeed in the music industry. He was recently inducted into Recording Academy’s class of 2022.
