Ghana Meets Naija goes to the UK
Organisers of the annual Ghana Meets Naija concert will host an edition of the event in the UK.
Scheduled to take place on 25 August, Ghana Meets Naija – UK will take its original form of featuring music talents from both Nigeria and Ghana. The UK edition will, however, feature more artists based outside of both countries.
Since it took off seven years ago, Ghana Meets Naija has featured a slew of top artists from Nigeria including MI Abaga, Tiwa Savage, Omawumi, Timaya, Burna Boy and Seyi Shay. Ghanaian artists that have performed on the Ghana Meets Naija stage include Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Keche and Efya. Besides giving fans a chance at seeing big names in pop music from both countries, the concert gives newer performers an opportunity to appear onstage with more experienced acts.
“Being on the same stage with the likes of Davido, Shatta Wale, Tiwa Savage, M.anifest…was big,” said Nigerian rapper Falz who performed at the last edition hosted in Ghana. “It was extraordinary. That sort of response made me feel very happy.”
The concert was named Best Event in 2012 and 2013 by Ghana Nightlife Awards. It has also been recognized by City People’s awards and the TV show Star Gist. The UK edition, according to organisers Empire Entertainment, will “feature performances from both foreign and UK-based artistes, a titillating DJ battle and a rave into the early morning hours.”
