SA: SAMRO to host member engagement session in East London
The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) will host the second leg of its national member engagement sessions at the University of Fort Hare’s Miriam Makeba Centre in East London on 24 August.
The event is part of the organisation’s series of consultations and engagement meetings ahead of its annual general meeting later this year.
The collective management organisation (CMO) first held the engagement meetings in Johannesburg on 30 June to enhance its relationship with members by allowing them to engage and interact directly with the organisation. Members, SAMRO said, should use these sessions as an opportunity to voice their concerns, suggestions and complaints to the executives and board representatives who will be in attendance.
“The meetings intend to address governance and operational matters that affect members’ craft and allow a shared and engaging experience with members by enabling them to raise issues for consideration on matters presented,” the CMO said in a statement. “SAMRO also uses these events as an opportunity to expand its member outreach efforts to other provinces, research members’ insights, and impart information.”
SAMRO said the engagement drive was part of its efforts to be member-centric.
“Representing over 156 000 members, the organisation wants to give members the opportunity to understand the benefits associated with the different tiers of membership, from prospect, associate and full membership, to be heard and provide feedback on how it is performing in terms of delivering on its mandate,” it said.
“SAMRO strives to be responsive to its members and will stay the cause towards retaining its status as the leading collective management organisation on the continent. The organisation has committed to continue improving the areas of governance and operational performance to ensure that members get maximum value out of their SAMRO membership.”
