MIALive: Women In Music Concert Series returns to Nairobi on 16 September
The popular Women In Music Concert Series showcasing Kenyan women artists is set to return after a two-year hiatus at the Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi on 16 September.
The concert – featuring performances by Njerae, Akoth Jumadi, Lisa Oduor-Noah and Fena Gitu – is supported by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) and its Music in Africa Live (MIALive) project.
The Women In Music Concert Series began in 2016 with regular shows held at Goethe-Institute Nairobi. It has so far featured more than 30 musicians, including popular acts like Nikita Kering, Atemi, Chemutai Sage and Mayonde.
The series seeks to promote women artists by providing them with a platform to showcase their original music compositions and performance skills.
“It has been our ultimate goal to put up a high-quality live music production,” Women In Music founder and jazz musician Christine Kamau said. “I am delighted that our efforts have gained recognition from international cultural stakeholders whose partnership has enabled us to put together this event, which I believe adds value to the Kenyan creative industry.”
The concert promises to provide an exciting fusion of acoustic, Afro-fusion, R&B and pop flavours for lovers of live music in the Kenyan capital.
The MIALive project was launched in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to support music professionals across the African continent. It is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, Siemens Stiftung and Goethe-Institut.
