Tendai Mhlanga
Bio
Tendai Mhlanga is a Zimbabwean Afro-Fusion singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer. He lives and breathes music, and his unique and avant-garde Afro-Fusion is the work of a proudly African citizen seeking to be true to himself while challenging the stereotypes around how African music should sound.
Born into a musical family in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital, he grew up immersed in an eclectic blend of both African and Western sounds and genres. His influences include everything from Zimbabwean traditional Mbira music, South African Township Jazz, West African Griot music, Nigerian Afro-beat and High Life, to American Jazz, Fusion, Pop, and RnB. Some of his long list of favourite artists include Jimmy Dludlu, Stimela, Salif Keita, Angelique Kidjo, Fela Kuti, George Benson, Joe Sample, Earl Klugh, Eric Johnson, Michael Jackson and Prince.
He released his debut album, ‘Anthems and Love Songs’, in 2018, which was a collection of both vocal and instrumental creations which showcased his abilities as both a songwriter and a composer. He is currently at work on his second studio album. His latest single, ‘Nyarara’, is a heartfelt ballad about moving on from heartbreak, and will be part of the upcoming album.
