Cape Verde: 4rain to unveil Cidade Velha mix on 24 February
French-Cape Verdean electro artist 4rain will unveil his latest mix on 24 February.
The Afro-house set was recorded in Cidade Velha, Cape Verde, last year, with 4rain saying the choice of location was informed by its historical significance. Founded in 1462, it was the first European colonial settlement in the tropics and became the centre of the Transatlantic slave trade. The city became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Origin in the World in 2009.
“It was a must for me to pay tribute to my roots and my history,” 4rain said. “I felt a lot of energy during that one hour of mix and I went through a lot of emotions. Cidade Velha is a city full of history. There’s a lot to know about this place in Cape Verde and I therefore want to thank the people who were present and the local authority for allowing this event to take place.”
To mark the release of the mix, YouTube will unveil a billboard of 4rain in Times Square, New York, on 23 February. The video of the mix will be posted on 4rain’s YouTube channel on 24 February.
With a refined electronic sensibility and distinct club feel, 4rain has curated a highly developed sonic signature that has earned him nods of approval within the urban pop music space.
Some of his popular releases include ‘I Don’t Belong’, ‘Play the Beat’, which reached No 9 in the UK and No 80 on the Hong Kong Spotify charts in 2019, ‘Out of Time’ featuring Team Distant, Lioness Ratang and Priscilla K, ‘Disturb Phone’ featuring Niniola and Kly, and ‘Whatever’.
