Malawi: UMP Awards voting open, categories unveiled
Malawians can now vote for their favourite musicians ahead of the 2017 edition of the Urban Music People (UMP) Awards at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on 18 November.
- Malawian guitarist Erik Paliani will perform at the fashion night event of the UMP Awards.
This follows an announcement by UMP organiser Ndefeyo Entertainment, which opened the voting process on 1 October.
Voting will be open until 12 October and people can vote for their favourite categories several times. Fans can send an SMS with the category and name of the artist they want to vote for to 9393 (for TNM network) and 2885 (for Airtel network). Example: UMP/artist of the year/name of artist.
“Nominees will be unveiled on the fashion night event at the Underground Park in Blantyre on 15 October,” UMP communications officer Thoko Kadewere told Music In Africa. “After that, people will start voting for their preferred musicians.
“During the process, voters will stand a chance of winning various prizes and tickets to the UMP Awards and festival set for 18 November. Be informed that SMS charges will apply. We would love to make this year’s awards bigger and better. We added new categories to signify the growth of urban music in Malawi.”
The event, which is now in its 19th edition, has also unveiled the 17 categories that artists will compete in.
