Open call: Spotify SSA Early Career programme
Spotify’s sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) music team is inviting applications for its Early Career programme.
This 18-month initiative offers an immersive experience aimed at nurturing early career talent within the region and providing insights into the audio business.
The selected candidate, based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and a member of the music team, will engage in rotations between music strategy & operations, artist & label partnerships, and editorial teams. These rotations will offer a comprehensive understanding of Spotify’s operations and the broader music industry in SSA.
The role primarily involves implementing special projects to support the music mission, conducting competitor analysis, monitoring social media trends, and infusing a Gen Z perspective into Spotify’s operations in Africa.
Responsibilities
- Assist music leadership in implementing a robust planning process and tracking workstreams.
- Support the daily workflow of the artist & label partnerships and editorial teams.
- Streamline workflow with international teams and programmes.
- Analyse data and analytics to gain insights into content consumption, competitors, user engagement and behaviours.
- Collaborate with the social media manager to ensure culturally relevant local platform content with a Gen Z focus.
- Work with global music teams and local/global editorial teams to localise and effectively implement content strategies.
- Collaborate across functions to achieve strategic company goals.
- Support virtual and live events and attend conferences.
Requirements
- A minimum of two years of experience in the African music industry, with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, music, or related fields.
- Strong interest in African music and a deep understanding of African culture, particularly in the context of Gen Z.
- Passion for data analysis and goal-setting.
- Proficiency in English, outstanding writing and communication skills (additional languages are a plus).
- Analytical approach, excellent presentation skills, and expertise in using Google Slides, Documents, and Sheets.
- Well-organised, dedicated, and capable of multitasking within tight timelines with exceptional attention to detail.
- A collaborative team player with a positive and humble demeanour.
