Open call: AfroFuture Rising DJ and Producer Challenge in Ghana
Applications are currently ongoing for the second annual AfroFuture Rising DJ & Producer Challenge in Ghana for emerging DJs and beatmakers.
The initiative, held in partnership with Believe-owned digital music distribution company TuneCore, aims to enhance the visibility of independent music producers and DJs across Africa.
This contest, among activities designed around this year’s AfroFuture festival in Accra on 28 and 29 December, forms part of AfroFuture’s music programme dedicated to supporting aspiring talent.
Participants have the opportunity to submit their unique spin on a provided beat, and the top performers will have the chance to shine on TuneCore’s AfroFuture Stage and official AfroFuture Mixer. This year, Nigerian artist Davido, Ghana’s Black Sherif and British-Gambian rapper J Hus have been confirmed as headliners for the festival, which is expected to draw more than 30 000 patrons.
Ten finalists will be selected for the TuneCore + AfroFuture Judging Committee, followed by a round of performance videos. Social media users will also have a say in selecting the top finalists, with the winner being chosen by the judging committee.
Last year, Ghanaian-American selector Ethan Tomas was named the winner of the competition, which received more than 100 entries from across the continent.
