Major Lazer’s Diplo set for Kenya show
American electro DJ and producer Diplo is set to perform at a concert in Nairobi, Kenya, on 20 January.
Organised by Kenya Nights, the gig will take place at the Carnivore Grounds and see Diplo return to the Kenyan capital for a third time. He will share the stage with Kooldrink (South Africa), Nitefreak (Zimbabwe), @hiriba.e (Kenya) and other local DJs.
Confirming the news, Diplo took to social media, saying: “What’s up Nairobi, Diplo here. 20 January I’m coming; I’ll see you there.”
Born Thomas Wesley Pentz, Diplo is one-third of the world-famous Jamaican-American electro-dancehall group Major Lazer, which also includes music makers Walshy Fire and Ape Drums. The trio is known for hits like ‘Pon de Floor’, ‘Run the World’, ‘Slight Work’, ‘Lean On’, ‘Run Up’ and ‘Cold Water’. Diplo toured Kenya for the first time in 2014 to huge reception, before returning for a Major Lazer concert in 2017.
Major Lazer have collaborated with numerous African artists in the past, most notably on their 2018 Afrobeats Mix compilation featuring artists like Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Ice Prince, Moonchild Sanelly, Nasty C, Harmonize and Kizz Daniel, among others.
