Ghana: Gyakie crosses 100 million streams on Boomplay
Africa-facing music streaming and download platform Boomplay has announced Ghanaian singer-songwriter Gyakie as the latest artist to join its Golden Club after surpassing 100 million streams.
The feat, which makes her the first Ghanaian female artist to cross that milestone, arrives on the heels of her selection as the winner of the Female Artist of the Year accolade at the 2024 YEN Entertainment Awards.
The achievement places her in the company of other popstars from the country, including Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and Camidoh. Across the continent, superstars like Nigeria’s Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Fireboy DML, Joeboy and Omah Lay, as well as Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz and Rayvanny, have also chalked up similar success on the platform.
“I would like to say a big thank you to Boomplay and my fans,” Gyakie, whose music spans Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, R&B, Dancehall and more, said. “We did it without an album by the way, so look forward to the album coming and keep running the numbers up. I am grateful.”
Signed to Flip The Music and Sony Music, the singer, born Jackline Acheampong, burst onto the music scene in 2019 with her debut single ‘Love is Pretty’, followed by ‘Never Like This’. The release of ‘Forever’ in 2020 shot the singer to continental acclaim and has been on a phenomenal run ever since.
Gyakie is behind two EPs, namely Seed and My Diary, and a plethora of hit songs including ‘Something’, ‘Need Me’, ‘Scar’ and recently, ‘Rent Free’.
Meanwhile, the artist, who joined British copyright collective PRS for Music last year, is set to release her debut album this year.
