Kenya: Blinky Bill releases Get That Paper single
Kenyan artist, DJ and producer Blinky Bill has dropped his second single off his upcoming album We Cut Keys 2 set for release on 26 January.
‘Get That Paper’ – which is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms – not only showcases Blinky Bill’s exceptional sonic mastery but his ability to create visually captivating stories as captured in the music video for the track. According to his team, the visuals for the single are in Blinky Bill’s opinion the high point of his visual career.
The song, which blends electro and hip hop elements, is a rallying call to hard work, imploring the listeners “get up and chase the paper.”
The single is a follow-up to ‘Dracula’, which came out in November. Speaking about the track during its release, Blinky Bill said: “‘Dracula’ is about standing up for yourself and speaking up for others in need of a voice. It felt like a song that made me want to open up and talk about my frustration, which I think is indicative of other people’s frustrations on the state of the world right now. There’s a lot of feel-good music when many people aren’t feeling good.”
With an impressive career spanning more than a decade, Blinky Bill has proven himself as a leading experimental artists not only in Kenya but around the world. He is renowned for his work as one of the driving forces behind the Kenyan electronic music and arts collective Just a Band, where he contributed to three albums. As a solo artist, Blinky Bill has already released two critically acclaimed albums – We Cut Keys While You Wait and Everyone's Just Winging It And Other Fly Tales.
His remarkable talent has allowed him to work with notable artists such as Nneka, GoldLink, Sampa the Great, Childish Gambino and Chance the Rapper. He has also graced the stages of renowned global events, including SummerStage NYC, TED2022 in Vancouver, Afropunk in South Africa and Paleo Festival in Switzerland.
