African stars set to play at Wireless Festival 2024
Wireless Festival in the UK has unveiled its first raft of 2024 performers, with African popstars including South Africa’s Tyla and Uncle Waffles, as well as Nigeria’s Asake, Rema, Shallipopi and Ruger all securing performance slots.
Owned and managed by Live Nation, the London-based summer event is among leading events for urban music and hip hop in Europe. Since 2017, Wireless festivals have been staged in Germany and the United Arab Emirates.
This year’s edition, which organisers say will be a “mind-blowing weekend full of show-stopping moments”, is scheduled for Finsbury Park from 12 July to 14 July.
The African artists on the line-up, who have fuelled the Afrobeats and amapiano movements around the world, were named alongside US acts Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat and 21 Savage, all of whom have been confirmed as headliners for this year’s edition. Sean Paul, Gunna and Digga D constitute the other names announced in the first round. More performers will be disclosed in the coming days.
Last year, Ghana's Black Sherif played at the Wireless Festival in London as well as the inaugural Middle East edition in Abu Dhabi. Confirming her appearance at the festival, Nicki Minaj said her time on stage “will be iconic.”
The festival will play host to 50 000 patrons daily, maintaining a similar attendance as last year, where notable performers included Ice Spice, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott and 50 Cent, among others.
