Open call: Master’s degree in contemporary music
The International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) are inviting students to submit applications for a joint one-year master’s course in contemporary music.
The course is designed for graduates in the fields of instrumental playing (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, piano, percussion, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass), composition, conducting and sound direction. Students admitted to the course will be awarded a monthly stipend of €900 by IEMA. The programme will take place from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany.
Main teachers are the members of Ensemble Modern, one of the leading groups for contemporary music in the world. The goal of the master’s degree programme is to teach contemporary performing techniques and the notation and interpretation of contemporary music, as well as to develop an understanding for aesthetic concepts immanent to the works, gaining comprehensive knowledge of the musical repertoire of the 20th and 21st century. For a whole year, the students work as an ensemble, the IEMA-Ensemble, performing around 25 concerts throughout the year in Germany and abroad.
“We are very pleased to announce that through the support of the KfW Stiftung foundation, two of these position will be explicitly awarded to outstanding young artists who have already completed training in their respective field and come from Africa, Latin America, Asia or the Middle East and/or were trained in one of those regions,” a statement reads.
Interested applicants can apply here before 17 February.
