Ghana: Paapa Versa shares One Cedi single
Ghanaian artist Paapa Versa has released his latest single ‘One Cedi’, which available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.
This self-produced track, co-written by Texas-based Ghanaian rapper KooKusi who also appears on the song, provides satirical commentary on the political landscape in Ghana, channelling its authors’ discontent with the country's politicians.
“Following a lot of news about Ghana’s political and economic climate, I got so frustrated and disappointed in Ghanaian politicians,” Paapa Versa said.
‘One Cedi’ blends elements of hiplife and calypso, incorporating a variety of instruments, including guitars, talking drums and shakers. Knii Lante, based in Accra, contributed additional guitars while Stephane Gonthier in the UK delivered the guitar solo.
About the creative process, Paapa Versa noted: “I enjoyed every minute of it. It was amazing to work with such talented artists from different parts of the world and bring this song to life.”
‘One Cedi’ forms part of the artist’s ambitious 24 Songs in 2024 project. Paapa Versa’s albums include Solar (2011), Songs for Kukua (2013), the Technical Difficulties (2018) trilogy and Versa Villa (2023).
