Sierra Leone: Thy Young drops Cocoa single

Published via Survival Records, the song heralds his Scent of Amie LP, slated for release on 14 June 2024. 

Sonically, the dance-ready ‘Cocoa’ blends Afropop and dancehall, complete with sweet guitar work and groovy percussion. 

On the track’s theme, Thy Young said: “The track asks a poignant question: when times get tough and the good times fade, will they still be the same people who stood by your side when everything was rosy?”

An industry vet, Thy Young grew up listening to hip hop and traditional African music, drawing inspiration from American hip hop giants Tupac and 50 Cent, as well as Sierra Leonean legends Jimmy B, Amie Kallon and Steady Bongo.

He has worked with local stars like Dom B, Swadu Natasha Beckley, Mello Seven, Innocent Kuti and Bigg Shake. He boasts two Best Music Producer of the Year trophies at the Sierra Leonean National Entertainment Awards (NEAs).
