Call for applications: Music photo exhibition Lagos
Each year Alliance Française celebrates Fête de la Musique, known as World Music Day in English. A one-day celebration of music that originated in France in the 1980s, the event has spread all over the world over the years.
To celebrate the day this year, Alliance Française Lagos intends to hold a photography exhibition. "This year," reads a statement from the establishment, "we wish to celebrate World Music Day with a special photography exhibition featuring works that celebrate music. We are thus calling out for all photographers."
While other branches of Alliance Française are going ahead with music events, the decision by the Lagos office to go for a photographic programme is in line with its plan to focus on the visual medium this year.
The centre's cultural coordinator, Esse Dabla, told Music In Africa that the decision to have photo exhibition was spurred by a need to put a less popular art form in the spotlight.
"Music and cinema already benefit from great exposure," she said. "Besides, we believe it is important for the world to see images of Nigeria other than what they could see in traditional media.
"We are convinced of the importance of telling your own story, and photography is a great way to do so. For every photography exhibition, we offer to take care of printing and framing, we handle communication and offer a cocktail. This exhibition will be no exception."
Alliance Française will be collaborate with its sister organisation, Institut Français, ahead of the event.
To apply for the World Music Day Photography contest, the following requirements must be met:
- Applicant must be Nigerian.

- Applicant must send a short biography via email to cultural.lagos@afnigeria.com.
