Australian metal band Caligula’s Horse to tour SA in August
Australian progressive metal band Caligula’s Horse will perform at The Daisy Jones Bar in Stellenbosch and Sognage in Johannesburg on 23 and 24 August.
The tour, organised by Turning Tricks Entertainment, will see the band promote its critically acclaimed nine-track album Charcoal Grace released this year in January.
“We’re home again for a few weeks to rest, with Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Scandinavia, Euroblast Festival and ProgPower Europe yet to come this year,” the band wrote on social media.
Based in Brisbane, Queensland, the four-member band has built a reputation for their dynamic soundscapes, melodies and powerful live performances. Since their formation in 2011, Caligula’s Horse has consistently pushed the boundaries of their art, exploring new sounds and themes with each release.
Its debut album, Moments from Ephemeral City (2011), received critical acclaim for its eclectic and exploratory style. The follow-up, The Tide, the Thief & River’s End (2013), delved into darker themes, solidifying their reputation as a conceptual and innovative band. Bloom (2015) marked a significant turning point, with its vibrant and hard-hitting sound resonating globally.
The group’s fourth album, In Contact (2017), further cemented its growth, with grand concepts and expansive dynamics that packed out venues across the world. The fifth record Rise Radiant (2020) showcased the band’s virtuosic performances and vivid musical colour, achieving their highest international chart positions yet. In January 2024, it released Charcoal Grace, its sixth studio album, born from the pandemic’s static hopelessness and geared towards a hopeful future.
Signed to German record label Inside Out Music, the group has shared stages with renowned bands like Mastodon, Opeth and Anathema.
