CANEX WKND 2024 presents Music Factory with Oskido and Scorpion Kings
South African group Scorpion Kings will perform at the 2024 edition of CANEX WKND in Algiers, Algeria, from 16 to 19 October.
The performance is part of the CANEX Music Factory, where hundreds of songwriters and beatmakers will converge at live recording studios within the CANEX exhibition. Hosted by South African producer and DJ Oskido, the event will see participants converge at the recording studios located within the heart of CANEX.
With music at the heart of CANEX WKND, a number of projects have been initiated, the most recent being the One Drum album release, which saw Oskido collaborating with the multi-Grammy winning producer Gordon ‘The Commissioner’ Williams. The record also features Scorpion Kings, Julian Marley (UK/Jamaica), Olodum (Brazil) and Sofiya Nzau (Kenya). To celebrate the release, Scorpion Kings will perform at the CANEX WKND, while Gordon Williams and Oskido will be in attendance running the fourth edition of the CANEX Music Factory.
“The CANEX Music Factory is not just a platform; it’s a movement that continues to discover and nurture talent across Africa, including emerging artists who might otherwise never have the opportunity,” Oskido said. “Having seen the incredible potential in Abidjan and Cairo, I’m excited to bring this energy to CANEX WKND in Algiers. We’re creating a legacy that bridges cultures, empowers artists, and amplifies African voices on the global stage.”
Since the inception of the CANEX Music Factory, over 500 artists have taken part in online or in-person songwriting, beat-making and recording sessions. All selected participants are given their share royalties and publishing based on their contribution to any officially released tracks.
Last year’s CANEX WKND featured delegates from across the continent representing a wide range of creative sectors. The event seeks to further develop conversations and provide even more business-to-business or business-to-government opportunities through a four-day gathering that will be held under the theme One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World.
The event, hosted by The African Export Import Bank, (Afreximbank), in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, and the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, will build on the success of previous events, most recently CANEX at IATF2023 that was held in Cairo.
Attendance to CANEX WKND is free, with registration open here.
