Open call: Modzi Artist-in-Residence programme in Zambia
Artists from around the world are invited to apply for the Modzi Artist-in-Residence (Modzi AIR) programme that will happen between November 2024 and November 2025 in Zambia.
Modzi Artist-in-Residence programme is a self-funded initiative that aims to bring together artists to create new bodies of work or expand on already existing works.
The call is designed for local, pan-African and international artists working in music, performance, visual arts, design, curation and art research to come and toil the art scene in Zambia.
“Without the pressures on the selection process we give space to a wide thought process of the artist,” reads a statement. “We are proud to present to all emerging to mid-career artists, for a chance to exchange on different art practices and experimentations. This year, as always, we do not have any theme, we propose for artists to work from one to three months at Modzi Arts in Lusaka.”

About the workspace
The Modzi AIR programme takes place in the heart of Lusaka, Zambia. The organisers a shared living space allowing for a more personal interaction between artists and the local community. There will be local art tours of galleries to artists’ studios, and artists will have full access to a library, art collection, and studio space with a variety of tools available and guidance from the Modzi AIR team if necessary.

Modzi Arts is a ground-breaking art institution that was founded in 2016 to combine the best of Zambian arts and culture. It seeks to strengthen the traditional, contemporary Zambian narrative locally and internationally. Through access to residency and programming, Modzi introduces the network to artists and curators, thereby strengthening the livelihood of the local community. Located in a 1970s recently restored building, it houses two galleries, a museum of Zamrock, a studio, a kitchen, an organic art farm, a performance, a DJ studio, a library of tools & books and living spaces.
