Rwanda: Bruce Melodie releases Colourful Generation album
Rwandan music sensation Bruce Melodie has unveiled his debut album, Colourful Generation, now available for streaming and download on major digital platforms.
The 21-track album marks a significant milestone in Bruce Melodie’s career, further cementing his status as one of East Africa and Africa’s most influential artists. Colourful Generation is a masterful blend of Afro-pop, amapiano, and R&B, highlighting Bruce Melodie’s versatility. Notable collaborations include ‘When She’s Around (Funga Macho)’ featuring Shaggy, ‘Niki Minaji’, ‘Iyo Foto’, ‘Marijuana’ and ‘Diva’.
Ahead of the release, Bruce Melodie described the album as a tribute to the new generation, saying, “This album is for the new generation Gen Z, Gen Alpha. It shows that it’s okay to be seen as different. This album describes our struggles, our happiness, and our perspectives on various matters, while also embracing the stories and melodies in songs.”
The album’s lead single, ‘Beauty on Fire’, features Nigeria’s Afro-pop sensation Joeboy. Directed by Bahali Ruth and J. Chretien Munezero, the music video narrates the story of a lover’s unwavering dedication amidst challenges, highlighting the transformative power of love. The track’s infectious Afropop rhythms and heartfelt lyrics showcase Bruce Melodie’s talent for blending emotion and melody.
Bruce Melodie kicked-off a promotional tour for Colourful Generation in December 2024, headlining Kenya’s Raha Fest and hosting successful listening parties in Uganda and Rwanda. In 2025, he plans to connect with fans across Africa, further solidifying his influence on the global music scene.
“Our generation has become so diverse, those of us who are embracing the beauty of diversity, individuality, and inclusivity. Colourful Generation tells our stories, our joys, and our love. It’s a celebration of who we are as people and as Africans, and it shows that it’s okay to be different,” he added.
Born in Kigali, Rwanda, Bruce Melodie has established himself as one of East Africa’s most decorated artists. Known for hits like ‘Katerina’, ‘Bado’, and ‘Ikinya’, he has gained international recognition, including winning the 2023 Trace Awards’ Best East African Artist. His international collaboration with Shaggy, on ‘When She’s Around (Funga Macho)’, performed at the inaugural Trace Music Awards, captivated an audience of over 500 million viewers worldwide.
