SA: MTV Base crowns new VJ
Ntandose Mosibi, a 25-year-old artist from Johannesburg, is the winner of the MTV Base VJ Search 2018.
- Ntandose Mosibi beat 8,000 other contestants to top spot.
Mosibi competed against South Africa-based finalists Nalitye Shan (Namibia) and Jonatao Morais (Angola), as well as 8 000 other hopefuls who were eyeing first prize.
“I still cannot believe I won, it feels like someone is going to wake me up and say I am being pranked, it all hasn’t sunk in,” Mosibi said. “I am super-excited to be part of the MTV Base team. Finally, my dreams to work on television are coming true.”
Monde Twala, vice president of youth, music and BET at Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, said: “This season of MTV Base VJ Search has once again highlighted VIMN Africa’s commitment as an entertainment destination of choice for youth culture.
“Ntandose’s win will transform her life, as many may have witnessed with Tshego Koke’s win in 2017. We are thrilled to have Ntandose as part of the MTV family and look forward to growing her brand within the MTV Base brand.”
Bacardi South Africa managing director Francois Portier said: “This has been an exciting journey, and Ntandose has all the attributes we believe make for a fabulous new MTV Base VJ. She is youthful, vibrant and full of life.
"[Bacardi] Breezer is all about good, crazy, fun and inspiring people to live their life in colour. We’re thrilled to have played a part in helping Ntandose’s dreams come true as partners for a second year in the MTV Base VJ Search.”
The head of marketing communications at Fiat, Musa Wilkinson, said Mosibi deserved a gift to commemorate her achievement.
“Congratulations to Ntandose Mosibi. Fiat is a distinctive Italian brand renowned for making small cars that have a big presence, due to their inherent style and universal appeal. We believe that Ntandose has similar qualities, which is why she's a winner and looks set to have an amazing career in television. We cannot wait to hand her the keys to her new Fiat Tipo.”
Mosibi now joins the likes of Tshego Mosupye, Sizwe Dhlomo, Sandile Ntshingila, Fikile Moeti and Nomuzi Mabena, all of whom are previous winners of the MTV Base VJ Search competition.
