Ghanaian government to fund new MUSIGA headquarters
President Nana Akufo-Addo has promised the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) a new national headquarters by the end of 2019.
This announcement was made at the sixth MUSIGA Presidential Grand Ball at Accra International Conference Centre this past Sunday.
Akufo-Addo said he has told the minister of works and housing to relocate the union following the commencement of the Marine Drive Project at the present location of MUSIGA.
He added that work was ongoing regarding the eagerly awaited Creative Arts Bill, which would assist creative arts practitioners.
For his part, MUSIGA president Bice Osei Kuffour called on corporate Ghana to continue to support the union in its efforts to improve the lives of the country's ageing musicians – which had been his vision eight years ago when he sought to become MUSIGA boss.
Obour also called on Akufo-Addo to reintroduce music education at the basic level for its pedagogical benefits and potential to improve musicianship in Ghana.
The sixth MUSIGA Presidential Grand Ball witnessed the honouring of six Music Industry Heroes and four Music Industry Pillars: Kofi Abraham, Pat Thomas, Naa Amanua, Asabea Cropper, Kwadwo Akwaboah and Abirekyireba Kofi Sammy. The Music Industry Pillars are Dr Kofi Amoa-Abban, Vodafone, 4Syte TV and Kwame Sefa Kayi. The Distinguished Personality Award was conferred on Ransford Antwi, founder of Space FM and Sun City Radio.
