Africa Day: African acts to perform live on Dutch radio
Dutch radio station CentraalFM’s Studio Globe music show will host several African acts for its Africa Day celebrations on 25 May 2019 in the town of Buren.
The show will be sponsored by Sounds Venlo, a Dutch record store that stocks music from around the world including Africa.
The musicians who will be featured on the Africa Day special are Minyeshu Kifle (Ethiopia), Zoumana Diarra (Mali), Vimbai Zimuto (Zimbabwe) and Blaise Kintaki (Congo). The show will air form 1pm to 4pm.
“With this session, we hope that more people will end up falling in love with African music,” Studio Globe producer Ruud Siebons told Music In Africa.
"I have been promoting African music on my show for more than 20 years, and it always gives me great joy to host musicians from Africa. The show’s listenership is always up during such occasions. Additionally, we will stock the musicians’ music at Sounds Venlo and I guarantee you that they will sell.”
Siebons also urged African artists to release their music on vinyl and cassette because such formats were becoming increasingly popular with European music consumers.
“The old are having nostalgic feelings and are just happy that LPs are back. However, the young people, who are the biggest consumers of music, are discovering and loving vinyl as opposed to buying digital music,” he said.
A podcast of the Africa Day live session will be available on Studio Globe's official Mixcloud page from 1 June.
