Botswana: Thuntsha Dithole drops new single
Botswana's Thuntsha Dithole has released a new single. The song, titled ‘Maemo Moloi’, will be launched in October and is already available on YouTube.
The single is also enjoying local airplay on Radio Botswana and Duma FM, while its official video will be launched in September.
“The ‘Maemo Moloi’ single explains the danger of power, particularly in African leadership, where holding on to power has now become African leadership culture,” a statement reads.
“According to the artist, she has been analysing how power is handled on other continents and the way it's done in Africa. The song likens power in Africa as witchcraft.
“It also talks about power and money. These two work together, money being lubricant of evil roots, leading to corrupt practices, which end up leading to the collapse of African economies."
Music In Africa spoke with Thuntsha Dithole, who said: “I was inspired by African leadership. In most cases it’s difficult to have smooth transition of power from one president to another, which sometimes can lead to coups as seen in other countries.
“The love for power can also lead to assassination of innocent citizens and abuse of state resources, which are used to fuel war in Africa. This greediness causes corruption, poverty, migration and poor infrastructure development in schools, clinics and roads.”
