Call for applications: Felabration Afrobics Dance Competition 2019
Felabration, the annual celebration of the life and music of Fela Kuti, is accepting applications for an Afrobeat-inspired dance contest ahead of the main event at the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos, from 14 to 20 October.
Now in its third edition, the contest is designed to promote the late Fela Kuti’s music and legacy as well as to popularise the Afrobeat dance styles pioneered by Yeni Kuti.
Three finalists will be selected by a jury and provided with an opportunity to showcase their dance piece at Felabration 2019. The winner will receive a cash prize.
The application deadline is 31 August.
Invitations with audition dates and performance songs will be sent to successful applicants by September 2019.
The final contest will be held at the New Afrika Shrine on a yet to be announced date.
Eligibility
This dance contest is open to all Nigerians, except:
- Persons who earn a living from dancing or offer dancing services for a fee.
- Employees of the Felabration organising committee, their close relatives or anyone connected with the organisation or judging of performances.
How to participate
Interested participants are required to:
- Read the guidelines, download and fill the application form via the Felabration official website.
- Email the form as an attachment to dance@felabration.net. The email subject should be 'Felabration 2019 Afrobics Dance Contest'.
Note that failure to comply with the application procedure may result in an application being disqualified.
