Call for entries: Zepick Modern Opera Competition in the US

The competition was founded in 2016 and has since brought innovative, affordable and accessible opera to communities and schools throughout the state of Kansas while providing emerging musicians artistic opportunities in a respectful, professional environment.

The application deadline is 2 September and successful composers will be notified on 15 October 2019. Selected scores will be premiered in September 2020.

Requirements

• A one-page profile in (300 words), which should include your most current contact information, website(s) and social media handles.
• A CV (max three pages).
• A description of your proposed new work (max three pages).
• Sample of previous scores and audio (MIDI recordings not accepted) files (max three)
• The full text only if the libretto is available, or a synopsis of the story that you would like to use in the proposed work, proof of public domain or permission to use the text or account
• Two to three examples of vocal or instrumental motivic ideas (6-8 measures, or 10-15 seconds) that you would feature in this specific opera project (MIDI recordings are acceptable for these examples only).

Prize

The selected composer will receive $25 000 along with:

• An all-expense covered trip to attend the premiere performance in September 2020.
• An opportunity for lectures at local universities and audience events leading up to the premiere performance.
• A professional recording (audio and video) of the live performance, features on the official website and social media and the possibility of future performances.
