Blaqbonez out with 'Shut Up'
Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez thrives on controversies. The braggadocios rapper already proved that he is unafraid of going toe-to-toe with any rapper, with the ‘Shut up’ single. The 100 Crowns (an imprint of Chocolate City Records) artist is coming all out with his latest effort, as he is once again embracing all the smoke in an audacious call to his rivals to check out his lyrical dexterity.
‘Shut Up’ produced by Tempoe, is another self-assured song in which his confidence is on full display. Coming off the heels of his 'Best Rapper in Africa, BRIA single, released in August 2019 which is more of a diss song. The infectious beat in this single is of note and looks set to bring the Nigerian dancehall fans something to jump to. On the song, the artist waxes lyrical about his many possessions, and reminds the fans why he is one of the most exciting prospects in Nigerian music.
His LP released in 2018 as the final instalment of his record label that also included full-length albums from Loose Kaynon and AQ, MI, immediately created a space in the scene for the artist. “I’m sorry, other guys (including MI) are dope. But I’m the best. I listen to my music and compare to what other rappers are doing. People need to step up,” he said.
A video premier of ‘Shut up’ is scheduled at the CCX Lounge, Lagos on 22 September. The reggae music scene has taken a hit in the last few years in Nigeria as the Afro-pop culture sweeping all through the genres and taken all the fans by storm at the expense of other genres. Dancehall music fell from being the most popular genre of music in the 1990s for Nigerians to almost something not many listened in the last few years. One was tempted to think reggae was dead in the country, the fans have always been there, but the artists all went into giving what the fans desire – hip hop. Blaqbonez is hitting the fans with this fusion of rap single and telling the detractors in in a stern warning to ‘Shut up’.
