Call for participation: IP and Music Rights Awareness Roadshow in Sedibeng
The Gauteng Department of Economic Development in partnership with the Sedibeng district municipality invites all musicians to attend its 2019 Intellectual Property (IP) and Music Rights Awareness Roadshow in Sharpeville on 2 October.
The roadshow, which is aimed at independent musicians, small production companies and home-studio owners, will feature the following entities to assist with copyright and royalty issues: SAMRO, CAPASSO, AIRCO, IMPRA, MASA and SAMPRA.
The purpose of the roadshow is to have a consultative session on issues regarding IP in the music industry and to conduct preparations for the Gauteng IP Conference. There will also be a financial literacy workshop for creatives, which will take place at the same venue.
"We are trying to give people in remote areas access to important information," CAPASSO communications coordinator Zodwa Mokhoanatsi told Music in Africa.
"People can expect great insight and information that they would not necessarily get on the website because it will be more interactive and they can ask questions in a language they understand."
The event forms part of a series of programmes initiated by the department with the creative industry to educate industry stakeholders.
Participants will also complete a questionnaire on their IP knowledge in the music industry and a Gauteng Department of Economic Development business assessment. The information provided will assist the department to develop industry-specific interventions.
The roadshow will take place at the Sharpeville Hall, corner Zwane and Seeiso streets from 9am to 4pm.
