Kenyan athlete adopts local song for inspiration
Kenyan long-distance runner Eluid Kipchoge adopted a track by local musician Nyashinski as his theme song ahead of his win last weekend.
The song, titled 'Marathon Runner', was released in April and encourages dreamers to keep running their respective races to achieve their goals. In the song, Nyashinski shows love to Kipchoge’s prowess as well as that of esteemed former runner Kipchoge Keino.
Last weekend, Kipchoge ran the fastest marathon by breaking the two-hour long-distance barrier. He clocked one hour 59 minutes and 40 seconds in Vienna, Austria.
"I am feeling good," Kipchoge said. "After Roger Bannister [broke the four-minute mile] in 1954 it took another 63 years, I tried, and I did not get it, 65 years later, I am the first man. I want to inspire many people, that no human is limited."
Meanwhile, Kipchoge is among the 11 nominees under the Male Athlete of the Year category at the World Athletics Awards 2019. The awards are organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Fans can access the IAAF’s social media platforms to vote for their favorites athletes.
