ASILI DUB
Bio
ASILI DUB is a music group from Nairobi, Kenya.
Their music is a fusion of uplifting & bluesy lyrics, melodic African, Taarab and Indian inspired guitar riffs. Some of their songs are a blend of heavy stepping bass lines, dubstep beats and a touch of Pink Floyd inspired psychedelic exploration especially in their 2019 EP.
The group members met at Peace Festival in Mogadishu in 2013. Two members Kombo and Jahm came back to Nairobi to work with DJ and producer Dread Steppa on what became the heaviest rooted Dub band in East Africa.
ASILI DUB has featured different artists throughout the years. In early 2017, the band teamed up with Walter Mwangombe on keys, Morris Kivisi on drums, and Ras Lyon Hart on lead vocals to work on the band’s first ever release.
The band has since performed at the 2017 edition of DOA DOA International Music Festival in Kampala, Nyege Nyege International Music Festival and Mungo’s HiFi East African Tour. ASILI DUB headlined the Zanzibar Reggae Festival in 2018, Alliance Francaise de Nairobi Showcase in March in 2019 and Irie Nairobi World AIDS Day in 2019.
The band's heavily fused Live Reggae Dub sound is highly influenced by Taarab, Dubstep and a whole lot of Kenyan sounds.
