Bio
Latheem is a natural born talent. He was singing by age eight and composing songs by sixteen. He was trained to play the guitar and violin. His soulful voice and tone are reminiscent of Alanis Morissette meets Tracey Chapman.
Latheem’s musical inspirations include; his world view, his family, social injustice, love and relationship dynamics.
“My musical point of view stems from my personal life and love experiences, human rights activism and our shifting social and political landscape.”
Latheem Gabriel's talents have taken him far and wide, including performing for the Mayor of Stockholm and he’s shared the stage with headliners like, Nakhane Toure` from the Black Coffee hit “We dance again”, Zolani Mahola from Freshly Ground, Matthew Gold, Craig Lucas and Jimmy Nevis. His single “Human Being” was selected as the official Pretoria Pride anthem for 2017, reaching a number one spot.
Having featured on the cover of more than one magazine and performed on various festival platforms, his talents also extend to media creation in the form of “Fitrah” – a compelling documentary co-directed and produced by Latheem that addresses sexual diversity within the Islamic community and features one of his compositions, “War is Where the Heart is”.
Latheem Gabriel is a Mother City native, born in 1983 and grew up in Mitchells Plain. His pastimes include; photography, creative writing and graphic design.
2017 saw him release his debut EP, ‘The Waiting Room’ a five track offering that deals with romance, childhood dreams and social issues as well releasing his first self funded music video of his single off the same EP, “Walk of Shame”.
Latheem is also the recipient of the Contributing Musician of the Year award, awarded to him in March of 2021 at the 2021+ Hero Awards.
He has recently released his single ‘At First Sight’ in June of 2021.
