Siphamandla Ngcobo

Bio

Siphamandla Meriweth Ngcobo is a dynamic and enthusiastic film writer and director from South Africa.

He was born in Ndwedwe, a rural area in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Ngcobo graduated from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal with an honors in Applied Ethnomusicology and BA degree in Music in 2012 and in 2018, respectively. As of 2020, he was studying for a masters degree.

Ngcobo directed multi award winning short films produced under his film company Zero Three One Films (Pty) Ltd.

In 2008, he joined the production of HHP shooting of a music video titled 'All I Need'. It is here where his passion for film was intensified. He joined Quizzical Pictures as an assistant producer on such projects as Intersexions, Master-Chef and Tropikal Island of Treasure.

In 2010, Ngcobo had the privileged to work as an intern at Vuleka Production, which produced films like 'Izulu-Lami' and 'Sky in Her Eyes'. In 2012, he joined Izwi Lomzansi radio station as a technical/content producer for Monday to Friday breakfast shows. Concurrently with radio, he released his first five minute short film 'Teresa', which won an award at the 2012 Durban Film Office. The success of the first film paved a way for another eight minutes short film titled ‘Zwelihle', which scooped nine awards in the 48 Hour Film Project and won the Best Short Film award at Ugu Film Festival and received screening in New Orleans in 2014.

Siphamandla received training in film script and directing from Youth Filmmakers Project which, was funded by NFVF. He graduated with a 24 minute short film title 'Street Somashishini', which was officially selected for the Durban International Film Festival in 2016, Jozi Book Festival and Joburg Film Festival in 2016.

In 2017, he completed a film directing training facilitated by Born Free Media, which was funded by KZN Film Commission.
