British singer Joss Stone extends ‘Total World Tour’ to Kenya and Malawi

British singer and songwriter, Joss Stone, will make her debut East African performance with a concert slated for 26 November in Kenya.

Joss Stone will be joined by a stellar line-up of Kenyan musicians including Tetu Shani, Labdi Ommes, Janice Iche, Tha Movement and the Kaya Collective. The afternoon concert, will provide a perfect fusion of British pop music and unique Kenyan rhythms, and will be held at Purdy Arms in the leafy suburbs of Karen in Nairobi.

Labdi Ommes will bring elements of traditional rhythms with her Orutu– a single stringed fiddle from Nyanza region in Kenya. Tetu will, on the other hand, bring his brand of music dubbed mood music. A self-taught percussionist and guitarist, Tetu's music draws influences from various countries, including Zambia, Mauritania, Senegal, Canada and the United States where he has lived.

The concert will provide a musical treat for keen followers of Joss stone. Born Joscelyn Stoker, the Briton singer rose to fame in late 2003 with her multi-platinum debut album, The Soul Sessions, which made the 2004 Mercury Prize shortlist. In 2015, Joss released her seventh album, Water for Your Soul, which many critics regard as her best work to date. The album comprises a set of meaningful songs weaving together reggae, hip hop and RnB with tones and nuances drawn from world music. It led to Joss being named Billboard’s top reggae artist of 2015.

Her stop in Kenya continues her Total World tour, which she embarked on in September 2014. Kenya and Malawi become the fifth and sixth countries in Africa following her previous concerts in Morocco, South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. After her show in Nairobi, the award winning English songstress will continue her showcase on the African continent with another live concert in Malawi. The Malawi concert will feature one of Malawi’s well-known artists, soul singer George Kalukusha, and will be held at the Bingu International Conference Centre Auditorium (BICCA) on 1 December in Lilongwe.
