Call for applications: African Music Institute instrument instructors
The African Music Institute (AMI) in Libreville, Gabon, seeks teachers in bass, trumpet, saxophone, piano, violin, drums, percussion and guitar to apply for a full-time faculty position as instrument instructors.
Bachelor's and master's programmes at the pan-African institute start in mid-October and are reviewed by Berklee College of Music in Boston, US, which boasts more than 280 Grammys awarded to its alumni.
How to apply
Musicians who are able to teach any of the above mentioned instruments and have a background as educators are free to apply. A thorough understanding of African music and all contemporary music styles is a plus. Candidates should be fluent in English C1 level (or native) and in French B1 level (minimum).

Qualifications
- A minimum of two years' effective teaching experience.
- Able to play and teach one of the aforementioned instruments.
- Good music reader as well as a strong knowledge in contemporary harmony application.
- Knowledge of Apple Computer environment and music software when necessary.
- Professional performing or studio experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of contemporary music styles.
- Piano/keyboard skills to support music theory examples.
- Aptitude for embracing cultural diversity in individuals, teaching perspectives, and curriculums.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to excel within a team-oriented department culture.
- Bachelor or Master of Music (or equivalent professional experience) preferred.
Job description
- Essential duties and responsibilities.
- Teach the musical instrument in individual private lessons and ensembles.
- Contribute to curriculum development, course content and review.
- Involvement in auditions determining eligibility, juries and final exams.
- Additional duties as assigned by the department chair.
Meanwhile, AMI has engaged global influencers to share their knowledge and experience with African music students. Last year, Akon and Davido visited Berklee students during a three-day workshop in Libreville. Since then, the two African superstars have been named AMI ambassadors.
"These artists did us the honour of coming to support the first workshop organised with Berklee. We had more than 100 students from 23 African countries,” AMI general director Nicolas Boudeville told Music In Africa in April.
