Call for applications: African Music Library programmes manager
The African Music Library (AML) is inviting applications for the post of programmes manager.
An initiative of Nigerian music intelligence company Josplay, co-founded by Emmanuel Ogala and Jideofor Okoro, the AML was launched in September 2022 to digitally index empirical and historical data about African artists, bands, record labels, their works and how they are made, including instruments and genres.
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and a deep passion for African music and culture.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing and coordinating various programmes including music acquisition, archiving, digitisation and dissemination.
Responsibilities and duties
- Develop and implement a strategic plan: Create a comprehensive strategic plan for the AML programme that aligns with the organisation’s mission and goals.
- Coordinate music acquisition and archiving: Oversee the acquisition, archiving and digitisation of African music, ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation of the music collection.
- Promote African music and culture: Develop and implement programmes and services that promote African music and culture, such as concerts, exhibitions, and educational programmes.
- Collaboration with other organisations: Collaborate with local and international organisations to expand the reach and impact of the AML, fostering partnerships and collaborations.
- Manage staff and volunteers: Provide effective leadership and direction to staff and volunteers involved in the programme, ensuring open communication and a productive work environment.
- Budget management: Develop and manage the programme budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to achieve programme goals effectively.
- Programme monitoring and evaluation: Monitor and evaluate programme outcomes, utilising data to continuously improve programme effectiveness and impact.
Qualifications
To be considered for the position of programme manager, candidates should have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree: Hold a degree in musicology, library science, or a related field.
- Programme management experience: Possess a minimum of five years of experience in programme management, preferably within a nonprofit or cultural organisation.
- Leadership and communication skills: Exhibit strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage staff and volunteers and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Project management and organisational abilities: Demonstrate excellent project management and organisational skills, with experience in budget management.
- Passion for African music and culture: Display a genuine passion for African music and culture, along with a comprehensive understanding of the African music industry and its various genres.
- Interpersonal skills: Possess exceptional interpersonal skills to foster effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Library and archival knowledge: Have knowledge of library and archival practices, with experience in music acquisition, archiving, and digitisation being advantageous.
- Programme evaluation experience: Have experience in monitoring and evaluating program outcomes and utilising data to enhance programme effectiveness.
