Call for applications: Digital Creative Industries Intermediaries short course
Goethe-Institut Johannesburg’s Cav’ Platform and the Wits University’s School of Arts, Digital Arts Department, are inviting women in South Africa, Kenya and Senegal who are working or are interested in starting to work as intermediaries within digital creative industries (DCIs) to apply for a Digital Creative Industries Intermediaries (DCI) short course from July to September 2023.
- The submission deadline is 28 June.
The three-month course is free and is designed to equip students with foundational skills, provide networking opportunities and to learn from experts. Working as an intermediary can mean anything from building relationships with publishers or hosting festivals, to managing copyright and licensing of IP, essentially working to support creative work. It aims to improve employment and income opportunities for creative professionals in Africa and the Middle East.
What is the course?
The DCI Intermediaries short course is an online pilot programme facilitated by Wits Digital Arts. The course will take approximately four hours each week to complete. Students will be invited to join live sessions but will be able to work in their own time. While the course will run in English, materials will be available with French translations.
While there are many DCIs represented in Africa, the focus of this course will be digital games, digital animation and immersive media. Students will network and build relationships with each other, learn from experts and gain foundational skills and understanding for working as an intermediary in Africa. Students will also have the opportunity to showcase work you are representing at a festival or fair.
