Call for applications: Goethe Talents Scholarship
Goethe-Institut is inviting interested persons to apply for the Goethe Talents Scholarship ahead of the Pop-Kultur Festival 2019.
The call targets young musicians, DJs, composers, singer-songwriters and instrumentalists between 20 and 30 years old from a transition or developing country.
The programme offers spots to talents from all over the world, and, as a result, participants will be able to network across borders and perform during the Pop-Kultur Live programme. This year, an alumnus will get the chance to return to Berlin for a month-long Goethe residency. The aim of the residency is to support artistic and cultural exchange through the creation of a new piece of music in collaboration with a Berlin-based artist, which will then be presented in the official live programme of Pop-Kultur 2020.
The deadline for applications is 17 April. The scholarship starts on 13 August and ends on 24 August.
What each participant can expect:
- Festival participation fee.
- Accommodation.
- Travel expenses.
- Hospitality (per diem of €10).
- Flight tickets and help with visa issues.
- Festival ticket free of charge plus access to Pop-Kultur’s networking area for professionals.
- Health insurance.
- Public transportation in Berlin.
Each participant will:
- Prepare short input talk (approx. 10 min.) in advance about his/her experience in the music field thus far and about the music scene in his/her respective country.
- Possess advanced English skills as there is no translation available. The local Goethe-Institut will run a test.
- Show proof of work experience in the field of music. Three projects, at least.
The scholarship is the product of a collaboration between Pop-Kultur Festival and the Goethe-Institut. This year, the Pop-Kultur Festival will take place from 21 to 23 August. In the run-up to the festival, 10 selected participants will get a chance to take part in studio visits, jam sessions, short traineeships at selected companies of the Berlin creative industries, listening sessions and meetings with scholarship holders of Musicboard Berlin. They will also be able to attend music concerts.
