Call for applications: New musical instruments competition in the US
Georgia Tech School of Music is accepting applications for its 2020 Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition.
The Guthman competition will take place from 6 to 7 March 2020 at Georgia Tech's Ferst Center for the Arts, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Now in its 10th edition, the event aims to identify the world's next generation of musical instruments and to unveil the best new ideas in musicality, design, engineering and impact.
Approximately fifteen semi-finalists will be invited to the campus to demonstrate, discuss in TED-talk style and perform with their instruments as they compete for $10 000 in cash prizes.
The panel of judges will select between seven to nine finalists. These finalists perform on stage in front of the public. Each finalist has eight minutes to present. The judges then choose a grand prize winner and two runners-up. The genre of entries varies from electronica, folk and traditional music.
The application deadline is 1 October 2019.
Requirements
- Profile/bio.
- Name and description of the instrument.
- Photo of the instrument.
- URL link to a video performance of the instrument.
- Technical rider for the performance.
