Call for entries: CROSS Award competition in Italy

Now in its fifth edition, the call seeks to identify new productions that put in dialogue the language of the body and the stage performance with musical composition, without any restrictions or constraints of any kind, category or practice. The call also aims to promote investigation and artistic expressions related to the combination of different styles and genres, considering multi-language practices and the mix of techniques and codes about the various performing arts as reward factors.

Applicants can apply here. The application deadline is 15 September. Preference will be given to original productions, whose focus is on the close interaction between artistic creation and environment, understood as landscape, territory or community.

The organisers will select five projects for a 15-day residence in January 2020 in Verbania, Italy. Participants will each receive a production grant worth €2 000 ($2 300).

Project eligibility

Projects should:

• Focus on the close interaction between musical composition and action stage. 
• Be submitted as a production that can be developed during the different phases of the residency.
• Engage in the rewriting of the present as well as the re-appropriation of public spaces.

Projects could simultaneously include the following multiple expressive practices:

• Dance
• Music composition and interpretation
• Singing
• DJ set
• Live soundtrack
• Urban performance dance
• The activity of noise music
• Theatre
• Body performance
• Participatory workshops
• Video art and motion capture
• Readings
• Site-specific design

How to enter

Entrants must complete and sign the registration forms on the CROSS project website with the following:

• Project title.
• A CV complete with the personal details of the contact person (address, phone number and e-mail).
• Link to audio tracks (enter author and title for both unpublished and published original compositions).
• CV of the single participant or the proposer company (it is important to report any national or international awards).
• Portfolio with a selection of the works made by the artist/company.
• Link to visual material if any.
• Description of the project (inclusive of a project concept, expected or supposed working methods, time schedule of the research/project, planned outcomes).
• Project description to be presented may be integrated with images, sketches and other material considered important for the explanation of the work presented (4000 characters excluding spacing, and in pdf format with file not exceeding 10 MB in size).
