Call for entries: Song contest for West African musicians
Submissions are ongoing the Nescafé One Song 2 competition for West African musicians.
The contest was launched last year in six West African countries, namely Ghana, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Nigeria, to provide a platform for young musicians to write and perform an original song of positivity to inspire each other to see a challenge through. This year’s theme is, Morning Motivation. Contestants stand a chance of winning $3 000 and a professional recording of the Nescafé One Song.

The deadline for submissions is 7 November.
Last year, Ghanaian musician Gidochi (Ghana), Fayamide (Nigeria), Ndongo (Senegal), Black Dany (Burkina Faso), Ozane (Cote d’Ivoire) and Stella (Cameroon) emerged as the winners of the competition, taking home $3 000 each. They also starred in the official video for the Nescafé One Song.
Eligibility
The competition is open to residents and/or citizens of Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire and Burkina Faso aged 18 years or above.
Entry
- The route to entry for the competition and details of how to enter are via Nescafé’s country-specific Instagram and Facebook pages.
- Participants are permitted to enter the competition once with up to three unique submissions, provided the submission consist of original lyrics and a unique video.
Participation
- To participate or enter into this competition, participants are required to create and submit their own original lyrics over the Nescafé One Song instrumental. The Participants shall submit their songs through their own pages with a video recording of their song and the hashtags #NESCAFÉOneSong2 and #NESCAFÉOneSong2 [Insert name of country]. Participants with private accounts must also message their Nescafé country-specific Instagram and Facebook accounts to share their entries.
- Participants are not required to deliver a chorus to qualify for entry. However, if a chorus is delivered, the lyrics must include the Nescafé Campaign Tagline: “Morning after morning. Take your hustle to the next level. Start strong, finish strong.”
- The song created and submitted by the participants should be original to them and not subject to any third-party rights or encumbrances. Participants must enter the competition using the Nescafé One Song instrumental, available for download on the campaign page here.
Shortlisting
- Five songs will be shortlisted from each country to enter into the final stage of the competition. The shortlisting process will be done by a panel made up of the producer, last year’s winners and the Nescafé team.
- The winning songs will be selected by a popular vote via the One Song 2 website.
- The top entries with the highest number of votes from each of the six countries will be selected as overall prize winners.
Prize
- The six overall prize winners will be given a cash prize of $3 000. The cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in their respective countries in the local currency equivalents, based on the prevailing exchange rate on the date of winner selection.
- The overall winning songs will be made into one inspiring, thematic and anthemic tune for Nescafé and named the ‘Nescafé One Song’.
