eSwatini: Skinny G announces music video against sexual violence
Eswatini-based Ghanaian musician Skinny G has announced the release of the video for his 2020 single ‘SODV’ featuring Mzion. The video will be released on 16 April at 6pm CAT.
‘SODV’ is published on G-Stars Entertainment & Projects and distributed by Universal Music Group. The video release arrives on the heels of already impressive achievements by the song since its release. They include being shortlisted for Song of the Year at the 2020 MTN SWAMA Awards, and being named in the MTN Pulse Firefly Top 20 playlist.
The video was shot in Manzini City. Direktor Kwenu, who was named Best Video Director at the awards, led its production.
‘SODV’ stands for ‘sexual offences and domestic violence‘. Skinny G told Music In Africa that the song cautions young people against acts of sexual violence regardless of which gender it is being directed at.
He said the video is meant to “unpack” his brand. “I am currently working on singles to create a local fanbase,” he said, adding that the video heralds a collection to be released next year.
On what his affiliation with Universal Music means for his career, Skinny G said: “It gives me the motive to continue releasing more music that will align my brand for bigger deals in the future.”
Skinny G started doing music professionally in 2017 and was signed two years later. His style is a blend of Afrobeats and Afro-house rendered through West African pidgin and Swati.
