Gambian acts to play Ghana Meets Naija concert
This year’s edition of the popular Ghana Meets Naija event will also feature artists from outside its titular countries.
Scheduled acts like Wizkid and Stonebwoy will be joined by a set of Gambian acts at the 2018 edition of the show on 9 June in Ghana’s capital city Accra.
The invitation comes courtesy of an agreement between the popular Sierra Leonean record label Kabaka Multimedia and Entertainment (KME) and the organisers of the annual Ghanaian concert. Nonetheless, not all of the Gambian artists expected to perform are signed to the label.
In a comment on the importance of the invitation to perform in Ghana, KME CEO Bakarr Turay said: “Prezo Collabo, Drizilik and I-Tribe will be in attendance too as guest invitees of KME in Accra this Saturday.
“This is to establish the fact that we also want others who aren’t part of Team KME to get the experience of being with the who is who in African entertainment.
"KME-signed artists have arrived safely in Accra today. They will be representing our nation over the weekend in Ghana Meets Naija at the Fantasy Dome in Accra, performing on same stage as Wizkid, Mayorkun, Mr Eazi, Stonebwoy, Kidi, King Promise, among others.”
Meanwhile, KME inked a representation deal with telecoms company Africell Sierra Leone last month. The full details of the deal have not been made public yet but the partnership was made known when Turay announced on Facebook: “It’s official. KME becomes brand ambassador for Africell.”
Africell followed Turay by also posting news of the agreement. "As Africell continues boosting the entertainment industry in Sierra Leone, yesterday marked another milestone. The best music label in Sierra Leone, Kabaka Multimedia Entertainment, has just joined an ever-growing list of Sierra Leonean superstars as ambassadors of Africell SL,” it said.
Tickets for the Ghana Meets Naija concert can be bought via the FlexiPay app.
