Ghana’s Stonebwoy to collaborate with Ne-Yo
These are good times for Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy. Named Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year, he has won BET Award’s Best International Act for Africa. Perhaps the sole glitch in 2015 was at the MTV Africa Music Awards held in Durban, South Africa where the dancehall left empty-handed.
Nonetheless, American R&B singer Ne-Yo, one of the marquee artists that night in Durban, may be featured by the Ghanaian in forthcoming song. Rumours of a possible collaboration began when photos of both artists surfaced online months ago. At the time Stonebwoy neither confirmed nor denied an alliance that may end up in the studio.
That has changed after an interview in Mauritius at the Multichoice Africa Content Showcase meet. ‘In the US,’ he said, ‘we are speaking with Ne-Yo like the last time there was a picture that came out. Communication is going on with management.’
If it works out, Stonebwoy will join compatriot Sarkodie who had US rapper Ace Hood on the song ‘New Guy’ this year. It would also help Ne-Yo’s popularity on the content after his performance at the MAMA, which was partly to promote his sixth album Non-fiction.
Stonebwoy also spoke about possible collaborations with Nigerian dancehall artists Cynthia Morgan and Burna Boy as well as South African rapper Cassper Nyovest.
