She announced the news on social media. "Big thanks to Goodies Music International for believing that my brand can easily make it on the international market even at age 40," she wrote on Facebook. "I am very grateful for the opportunity, and I promise to do my best and to make Ghana proud. Thank you so much."
Mzbel doubles up as a radio presenter and is known for hits such as 'Awoso Me' and 'Sixteen Years', among others. In 2018, she was appointed the music ambassador for the Network of Journalists for the Promotion of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa.
The announcement comes three months after GMI rebranded and changed its name from Goodies Music. The label has state-of-the-art recording studios in Ghana, Belgium and the US. It is also affiliated with international labels such as Reymond Entertainment (Netherlands), Base Management (UK), Alordia Promotion (UK) and Kennis Music (Nigeria).
In other developments, the Ghana Music Right Organisation (GHAMRO) will soon launch a campaign against music piracy in the country.
GHAMRO chairperson Rex Omar said the campaign would seek to enforce the Copyright Act and in the process improve the collection and distribution of music royalties.
"Going forward, our new management department will roll out a complete image branding of the society and its collection system in each region of Ghana. Weekly task force activities will accompany this," he told BeatWaves.
