Ghanaian musicians up for young role model award
Ghanaian highlife musicians Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene and KiDi have all secured nominations at this year’s Young Professionals Role Model (YPRM) Awards scheduled for the Accra International Conference Centre on 4 November.
The awards are put together by the Young Professionals and Youth Coalition (YPYC), a non-profit based in Ghana, and are held as part of the annual Transform Summit, which is currently in its 11th year.
The focus of the event is to serve as a platform to bring together young Ghanaian professionals for discussions on national development and to honour role models whose contributions have made a positive impact on young people. This year, the awards ceremony will run under the theme, Legendary Leadership Lessons Shaping Our World.
Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene and KiDi were shortlisted in the YPRM in Music and Entertainment category. The artists are among Ghana’s leading musicians and behind some of the country’s best-known songs. They were also among the big winners at the recently held Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
The YPRM Awards will also recognise personalities and organisations in more than 30 other competitive, non-competitive and honorary categories. They include theatre, industry, health, media and community empowerment, among others.
Scheduled speakers for this year's edition include Ovation Media executive chairperson Chief Dele Momodu, Salt and Light Ministries executive director Dr Joyce Aryee, Dr Olu Ajayi (Maddison Pine, UK), former Ghanaian deputy minister of transport Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications CEO Abraham Kofi Asante, and investment analyst and author Abena Brigidi.
The organisers say that in adherence to COVID-19 protocols, this year’s edition will be held with minimal in-person attendance. The event will be streamed live via Zoom and the YPYC Facebook page.
