Ghana's Stonebwoy drops Jejereje single ahead of sixth album
Ghanaian pop singer Stonebwoy has announced a new single titled ‘Jejereje’ ahead of his impending sixth studio album. The track is available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.
The dance-ready record, produced by Grammy-winning Amsterdam-based DJ, producer and guitarist Ginton, blends traditional sounds with contemporary pulses. It follows other recent offerings like ‘Ekebele’, ‘Your Body,’ and the Wyclef Jean-assisted ‘Pray for Me’.
The song’s title translates from local parlance to “one’s cup of tea,” implying that a person’s actions shape their fate, while Banini directed its attendant visuals.
“‘Jejereje’ takes listeners on a nostalgic ride with traditional storytelling of Ghanaian folklore,” a statement explains. “The single is an ode to Ghana’s rich culture and history as it beautifully blends street music and style with vibrant melodies and rhythmic beats, all while visually and sonically capturing the depth and wisdom of Ghanaian narratives.”
Meanwhile, Stonebwoy’s new album, due next month, draws from everything from Afrobeats, amapiano, reggae-dancehall and R&B, boasting a “masterful blend of innovative soundscapes and deep-rooted traditions, highlighting Stonebwoy’s exceptional talent and commitment to pushing the boundaries of the genre while honouring its rich heritage.”
In June, Stonebwoy emerged as the biggest honouree at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where he clinched seven trophies, including the coveted Artist of the Year Award for the second time.
Months prior, he scored a new global distribution and label-services deal with Warner Music Group’s ADA Worldwide after a two-year stint with Def Jam Recordings.
“This deal marks another stride forward in bringing my music to the global stage via ADA’s network,” Stonebwoy said about the deal. “My aim has always been to unite people through the fusion of African music (Afrobeats), reggae, dancehall, R&B, and hip hop. They say creativity flourishes in freedom, so owning my creativity is essential for me to make a meaningful contribution to the global music landscape.”
“Stonebwoy is in a league of his own,” ADA Worldwide president Cat Kreidich said. “His genre-blending style has resonated with millions of fans around the globe and he’s helped shine a light on the rich and vibrant sounds coming out of Africa. He’s spreading positivity, love and unity with music that makes you move and makes you feel. We can’t wait to support his unique creative vision even further across the international stage.
